NEMO: Need-inspired Emotional Expressions within a Task-independent Framework
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper presents the underlying algorithms of an emotion model within a task-independent framework. This model, called NEMO is a taskindependent model that integrates a module of needs for emotional expressions. We suggest that appraisals can be confined within various scopes of needs. In other words, the emotion framework allows control over appraisals based on a set of pre-defined levels of needs. This way, the agent is able to sort out his priorities, and express emotions according to his needs. The definitions of the needs and appraisals concepts along with their computations are presented to demonstrate their relations with the emotion generation mechanism in a multi-tasking environment of an autonomous emotive agent.

We describe the work on infusion of emotion into a limited-task autonomous spoken conversational agent situated in the domestic environment, using a need-inspired task-independent emotion model (NEMO). In order to demonstrate the generation of affect through the use of the model, we describe the work of integrating it with a natural-language mixed-initiative HiFi-control spoken conversational a...
متن کاملStimuli-Dependent and State-Dependent Effects of Emotion on Children’s Executive Functions and Intentional Forgetting: Associations With Age and Socio-Emotional Adjustment
Studies on adults have revealed a disadvantageous effect of negative emotional stimulion executive functions (EF), and it is suggested that this effect is amplified in children. Thepresent study’s aim was to assess how emotional facial expressions affected working memoryacross age, using a working memory task with emotional facial expressions as stimuli.Additionally, we explored...
متن کاملIntegrating a Need Module into a Task-independent Framework for Modeling Emotion: A Theoretical Approach
This paper concerns emotion modeling for a taskindependent agent by integrating a module of needs. Inspired by theoretical views with regards to human needs, we suggest that appraisals can be confined within various scopes of needs, and to demonstrate this, we propose an emotion framework which allows control over appraisals via pre-defined levels of needs, urgency or priorities.
متن کاملEvent-Related Potentials of Bottom-Up and Top-Down Processing of Emotional Faces
Introduction: Emotional stimulus is processed automatically in a bottom-up way or can be processed voluntarily in a top-down way. Imaging studies have indicated that bottom-up and top-down processing are mediated through different neural systems. However, temporal differentiation of top-down versus bottom-up processing of facial emotional expressions has remained to be clarified. The present st...

Early-latency theories of emotional processing state that at least coarse monitoring of the emotional valence (a pleasure-displeasure continuum) of facial expressions should be both rapid and highly automated (LeDoux, 1995; Russell, 1980). Research has largely substantiated early-latency differential processing of emotional versus non-emotional facial expressions; however, the effect of valence...
